چکیده

Spectroscopic investigation, on exotic nuclei, performed in two different experiments with secondary radioactive boron beams are discussed. Spectroscopic factors for the B+n bound-states are obtained by measuring momentum distribution of the B residual nucleus from knockout reaction of the B beam at intermediate energy. The momentum distributions are measured in coincidence with the emited γ-rays from the excited residual B nucleus allowing spin-parity assignment and partial cross section determination. In the other experiment, a deuteron transfer, H(B,α)Be, reaction with low energy B beam are used to search for resonances in the unbound Be nucleus. The ANC Asymptotic Normalization Coefficient method are presented and astrophysical implications of these two experiments are discussed.

Laser-initiated primary and secondary nuclear reactions in Boron-Nitride

Nuclear reactions initiated by laser-accelerated particle beams are a promising new approach to many applications, from medical radioisotopes to aneutronic energy production. We present results demonstrating the occurrence of secondary nuclear reactions, initiated by the primary nuclear reaction products, using multicomponent targets composed of either natural boron (B) or natural boron nitride...

Direct reaction probes of single-particle states and correlations

The most exotic neutron-proton asymmetric nuclei are produced most efficiently in high-energy fragmentation reactions. These exotic nuclei are produced as fast secondary beams with energies of order 100 MeV per nucleon or greater, and hence v/c > 0.3, often with relatively low intensities. For such beams one can exploit both the detection efficiency and the cross sections for fast oneand two-nu...

An Introduction to Boron Neutron Therapy (BNCT): Current Status and Future Outlook

Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is based on the nuclear reaction, such that B-10 irradiated with low-energy thermal neutrons produces alpha particles with high linear energy transfer and lithium-7. Clinically, BNCT is used primarily for treatment of high-grade glioma or brain metastases from melanoma and, more recently, head, neck and liver cancers. Since reactors have long been used to pr...

Probing the states of nucleons in exotic nuclei

Many of the most exotic neutron-proton asymmetric nuclei are produced in relatively small numbers in high-energy fragmentation reactions. They are produced as fast secondary beams with energies of 100 MeV per nucleon or more. Developments made and recent results that both exploit and assess fast oneand two-nucleon removal reactions from such secondary beams are reviewed. This includes very rece...

Clinical Requirements and Accelerator Concepts for Bnct

Accelerator-based neutron sources are an attractive alternative to nuclear reactors for providing epithermal neutron beams for Boron Neutron Capture Therapy. Based on clinical requirements and neutronics modeling the use of proton and deuteron induced reactions in 7Li and 9Be targets has been compared. Excellent epithermal neutron beams can be produced via the 7Li(p,n)7Be reaction at proton ene...
